 The mars landing!

On the 18th February 2021 NASA landed a space rover on Mars so I thought I'd tell you a little bit about it!

There were three space rovers from different countries that landed around that time but why three all at once?

The reason is that Us and Mars are orbiting the sun at different speeds so sometimes one can be on the other side of the sun or they can be near each other ( see below). All rovers managed to get there in 7 months because at this time we are closest to mars.

Perseverance, Nasa's rover, landed on Mars at around 9pm and this is how it works.

Previously, NASA made a map of mars showing all the rocky bits and cliffs. Perseverance takes photos of where it is going  and by using the map, NASA can tell where it is!

The 18th Feb was also the the day that The Moon and Mars had a conjunction, which basically means near together. I was out at 8pm that night looking at it so I was probably there at the time that it approached Mars!
