Mercury
Hello! I am going to a post about all the planets and, seeing as mercury is nearest to the sun, I have decided to start with that.
Mercury is the Nearest planet to the sun. If you stood on Mercury's surface the sun would look 3 times bigger than it does on earth! It is a hot, rocky planet and is only 1/3 of the size of our home planet, Earth.
It is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere lots of craters, probably made by comet and meteoroid impacts.
As it is so near to the sun, it faces extreme temperatures. In the day it soars up to 340but in the night it can drop to a freezing -180°C.
The MESSENGER probe discovered pockets of ice water at Mercury's North Pole where it is permanently shielded from the sun's heat. Scientists think it is from ice comets smashing into the planet in the early history of the solar system.
Bye!
